To Truly Stand with Immigrant New Yorkers, Governor Hochul Must Work With Legislature to Pass ‘New York For All’ This Year

Albany, NY – Following Governor Hochul’s State of the State address, The New York for All Coalition, comprised of directly impacted families, advocacy, labor, faith, youth, and direct service organizations from across New York State, issued the following statement:

“Across the country, State leaders are rising up to stop the Trump administration’s brutal, violent, racist, and deadly campaign of mass detention and deportation. Today, Governor Hochul rightfully mentioned the importance of protecting immigrant New Yorkers, but the proposals shared fall short of what is required.

“ICE and Border Patrol have shown themselves to be rogue, unaccountable, and increasingly deadly. We urgently need clear boundaries to ensure our state and local resources are not used anywhere in New York to help the Trump administration tear families apart. Every New Yorker must be assured that local authorities will not collude with ICE or CBP to violate our rights or kill our neighbors.

“The New York For All Act (NY S2235/NY A3506) sponsored by Senator Gounardes and Assemblymember Reyes will create these clear boundary lines, and also invalidate over a dozen 287g agreements between localities and the Trump administration, which deputize local law enforcement to act as agents of mass deportation, and have resulted in a New Yorker’s death.

“We call on the Governor to join her colleagues in the State Legislature who recognize that passing the New York For All Act is essential to keep New York safe.”
