Marisa Caño-Carey (she/her/hers) grew up in the Bronx before receiving her B.A. in Political Science at St. Louis University in Madrid, Spain. After graduating, she joined UNHCR in Ecuador, where she assisted in refugee status determination cases and the resettlement of Colombian refugees. Later, she joined UNHCR along Mexico’s southern border working with detained immigrant adults and children from around the world applying for asylum and humanitarian visas. Since then, she has worked and volunteered at various immigration non-profits in the United States, where she has dedicated herself as an advocate for immigrant families.
