Court Order Buys Time. Real Solutions Must Follow
The Bronx, NY – Damian Fagon, Director of The Bronx Cannabis Hub, issued the following statement in response to a state judge signing a deal in court today whereby the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) agrees to extend its current rules regarding the placement of cannabis dispensaries in proximity to schools until February 2026:
“We applaud the news that an agreement has been reached which will enable stores to remain open and remove some of the uncertainty caused by OCM’s sudden rule reversal. The decision to change the interpretation never made sense in the first place, which advocates immediately pointed out upon its announcement.
“While the agreement provides some stability going forward, OCM must provide relief to the small businesses who were caught in limbo during this interim period, draining savings and taking on debt while their doors remain closed. We look forward to hearing their plans to make these entrepreneurs whole.”
