Forensic Practice Group

The Bronx Defenders created the Forensic Practice Group to respond to the increasing number of criminal and family cases that rely on forensic evidence and to develop the in-house expertise necessary to zealously defend our clients in court.  As the landmark 2009 National Academy of Sciences’ report made clear, many forensic techniques have not undergone rigorous scientific evaluation.  Indeed, forensic science that is unvalidated, improperly conducted, or improperly presented at trial is one of the leading causes of false convictions.  The Forensic Practice Group provides training, support, and resources for attorneys across practices who are litigating forensic cases.  The group also works to identify novel challenges to the introduction of forensic evidence at trial.

The Forensic Practice Group specializes in several areas of forensic evidence, including DNA, fingerprints, witness identification, false confessions, ballistics, and digital evidence.
