Marlene is a graduate from Long Island University (LIU) where she achieved a B.A. in International Relations with a minor in Spanish Language and a specialization in Criminal Justice. During her time at LIU, Marlene served in leadership roles and participated in several organizations such as The Latin American Women’s Society and student government and was also inducted as a member of Sigma Delta Phi Epsilon Incorporated and the National Society for Leadership and Success, Sigma Alpha Pi. Marlene interned for Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights (NMCIR) throughout and after her college career where she honed her desire to work in community based organizations and discovered her passion for Immigration Law. Marlene’s role in NMCIR included outreach and assistance in translating legal documents and filling out naturalization applications. Prior to joining The Bronx Defenders Marlene worked at Morris Heights Health Center where she worked under the Healthy Families program as a Program Associate. Marlene served on the Advisory Board to the program and currently sits on the Headquarters Board of Sigma Delta Phi Epsilon Incorporated.
