Maria Matute (she/her/hers) received her bachelor’s from Binghamton University, where she double majored in Sociology and Latin American/Caribbean Area Studies. During her time at Binghamton University, Maria was a Resident Assistant for three years and made herself a private resource to students on campus. Maria was also involved in another organization, called Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha Inc., a Latin-based sorority that focused on philanthropy/community service, spread knowledge about the Latinx culture and empowered women from diverse backgrounds. Maria used her platform to advocate for different causes and bring awareness to important social justice issues. Maria also had the opportunity to travel abroad to Malawi, Africa for a service learning and community development, 6-week program that the university offered. Maria is a native-Spanish speaker.
