Karla Vergara graduated from Boston College Law School in 2017, where she received distinction for her commitment to pro bono work. While in law school, Karla served as a student attorney at the BC Immigration Clinic, where she represented clients in immigration and family court. In addition, she collaborated with the BC Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project on issues regarding foster care, guardianship, and juvenile delinquency. As a New York Pro Bono Scholar at Chadbourne & Parke’s New York office, she devoted her last semester of law school to working directly with the firm’s Pro Bono Counsel on immigration and family law matters, including guardianships, custody proceedings, and a petition for habeas corpus filed in federal court. Karla spent her 1L and 2L summers working for private law firms in San Juan, PR and Miami, FL, where she also has strong community ties. Karla holds a B.A. in East Asian Studies and a minor in Latino Studies from Cornell University. She is a native Spanish speaker, proficient in Portuguese, and has limited proficiency in Japanese.
