Garanique grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut before attending Cornell University in 2013. She graduated with a B.A. in Government and minors in Law and Society, Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies, and Inequalities. While attending Cornell, Garanique served as a student translator for the Cornell Law Clinic. Her work focused most heavily on helping women and children obtain asylum in the United States. In addition, Garanique also served as a research assistant collecting data on national payday lending institutions and analyzed the effects of such institutions on economically disadvantaged communities. Prior to joining The Bronx Defenders, Garanique simultaneously interned in Milford, Connecticut’s Bail Commissioner’s Office and the Milford Clerk’s office. In addition, she served as a junior probation officer in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Garanique speaks Spanish.
