THE 2012 SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Each summer law students and college students participate in a 10 week summer internship program at The Bronx Defenders. With the goal of inspiring and teaching future public defenders and advocates, The Summer Internship Program exposes students to all aspects of holistic advocacy. Interns learn how to advocate for and represent clients using an interdisciplinary approach to defense work through training, observation, shadowing, as well as legal research and writing. Eligible interns who have completed 2 years of law school may also represent clients in misdemeanor matters while supervised by an attorney in good standing. Throughout the summer program The Bronx Defenders invites various advocates and notable activists in the field to come speak to the interns about their work. Additionally, there is a series of discussion groups on various topics relating to criminal justice and family defense and a mini-trial advocacy program for law students.
