I'll Never Forget That Face:
The Science and Law of the Double-Blind Sequential Lineup

David L. Feige

The Champion (National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers

January/February 2002

"Eyewitness Identification is the dirty little secret of the criminal justice system. It comes as no surprise that mistaken identification is a leading cause of unjust incarceration..."

The Bronx Defenders has spearheaded the fight to change the way lineups are conducted, not just in the Bronx, but throughout New York City, New York State and beyond. In January of 2001, The Bronx Defenders filed the first comprehensive challenge to the traditional lineup. Since that time, the pleadings in that first case, People v. Leo Franco, have formed the basis of challenges throughout New York and across the country.
