Bronx PrYde Offers Summer Workshop Series
Starting in July, Bronx PrYde will offer a summer workshop series through the New York City's Summer Youth Employment Program designed to provide teenagers with the experiences they need develop into successful adults. Through workshops like “Creating Your Ideal Community: What Young People Can Do,” participants will critically engage and develop solutions to the issues important to them and their communities. Complementing these discussions, Bronx PrYde youth will transform their ideas into concrete action, performing community service this summer with Part of the Solution (POTS) and Partnership for Parks. Throughout the summer, Bronx PrYde will also feature several creative arts professionals as guests who will share their experiences and advice with our youth. By the end of the program, their experiences with Bronx PrYde will instill in the participating young people a greater sense of responsibility to their community through solutions-based workshops and activities, community service, and dynamic partnerships with individuals and organizations.
Each year, students participating in the Community Arts Exchange celebrate their year of learning, reading, and creating by working together on a large mural with a local artist.
By reaching out to the Bronx Community, The Bronx Defenders redefines the expanding role of the Public Defender.
Through the Parent Liaison Institute, community residents and Bronx college students learn to serve as lay advocates for families in their own community who are involved in the child welfare and Family Court systems.
On Election Day, the Voter Enfranchisement Project sends monitors to South Bronx polling sites in collaboration with several other concerned community groups. These trained community volunteers, law students, and lawyers assist voters in casting meaningful ballots at the polls and documenting any problems they encounter.
